Using Variables Within the Expectation Formula

چکیده
This paper introduces two constraints on the use of variables inside the expectation formula. The constraints are, roughly, (1) that the variable takes the same conditional expectation in each event in the partition and (2) that the total expected value be a linear function of the variable for each event in the partition. We argue that the reasoning in one version of the “two envelope paradox” contains a violation of the first constraint.

Predicting Customer-Expectation-Based Warranty Cost for Smaller-the- Better and Larger-the-Better Performance Characteristics
The quality loss function assumes a fixed target and only accounts for immediate issues within manufacturing facilities whereas warranty loss occurs during customer use. Based on the two independent variables, product performance and consumers’ expectation, a methodology to predict the probability of customer complaint is presented in this paper. The formulation presented will serve as a basic ...
متن کاملComplete convergence and complete moment convergence for weighted sums of extended negatively dependent random variables under sub-linear expectation
In this paper, we study the complete convergence and complete moment convergence for weighted sums of extended negatively dependent (END) random variables under sub-linear expectations space with the condition of [Formula: see text], further [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text] is a slow varying and monotone nondecreasing function). As an application, the Baum-Katz type...
متن کاملCONDITIONAL EXPECTATION IN THE KOPKA'S D-POSETS
The notion of a $D$-poset was introduced in a connection withquantum mechanical models. In this paper, we introduce theconditional expectation of random variables on theK^{o}pka's $D$-Poset and prove the basic properties ofconditional expectation on this structure.
متن کاملIran’s Maize Import Policy Based on the Exchange Rate Volatility and Price Expectation
The present study has made an attempt to discuss the effects of exchange rate volatility and price expectation on maize imports in Iran from 1980 to 2013. In doing so, using the EGARCH technique for time series econometrics, price volatility variables for both exchange rate and final price have been calculated, and the time series for these variables have been extracted. Additionally, in regard...
متن کاملOn the expectation of the product of four matrix-valued Gaussian random variables
The formula for the expectation of the product of four scalar real Gaussian random variables is generalized to matrix-valued (real or complex) Gaussian random variables. As an application of the extended formula, we present a simple derivation of the covariance matrix of instrumental variable (IV) estimates of parameters in multivariate linear regression models.
